Rural County Report, 1993. Data Report from County Level Data Base.
Mansfield Univ., PA. Rural Services Inst.
This report presents numerical data for 1990-92 on demographic, social, and educational variables, comparing rural and urban areas of Pennsylvania. Two types of comparisons are provided: (1) rural, urban influence, and urban groupings, based on population density typology (people per square mile and size of the largest community in the county); and (2) rural and urban groupings, where rural counties are defined as having more than 50 percent of the population living in U.S. Census Bureau-defined "rural" places of less than 2,500 people. Each of Pennsylvania's 67 counties submitted data on over 200 variables covering population, vital statistics, housing, education, social indicators, crime, health, employment trends, unemployment, and personal earnings. Educational statistics include levels of educational attainment, number and percentage of public and private school graduates in postsecondary education and the armed services, number of children enrolled in public and private schools, and instructional and transportation expenditures. Information can be reported from the database for any single county in Pennsylvania. (LP)
