Core Knowledge Sequence. Grades 1-6.
Core Knowledge Foundation, Charlottesville, VA.
"The Core Knowledge Sequence (CKS) is a consensus-based model of specific content guidelines that, when used as the basis of about 50% of a school's curriculum, can provide a solid, coherent foundation of learning for students in the elementary grades." An introductory section discusses the CKS, its implementation, profiles of the CKS at specific schools, and common misconceptions about the CKS. The remainder of the guide is organized by subject area and grade level, addressing the following: (1) language arts; (2) American civilization; (3) world civilization; (4) geography; (5) fine arts; (6) visual arts and architecture; (7) mathematics; and (8) life science and physical sciences. Each subject-grade level entry contains general topics and guidelines, as well as specific content with which students should be familiar. (MDM)
