This guide was designed for elderly individuals in Arkansas and for professionals working with these persons. It provides information about obtaining and using tools for living. The guide shows persons ways to work with agencies and organizations to see that tools needed by individuals are provided. It is intended to be an introduction to the process of getting needed tools for living into the hands of persons who need them. Tools for living are defined and several rights of individuals are identified, including the right to information, advocacy, independence, due process, and the rights to disagree with professionals and to have feelings. Service factors are discussed and how to select a tool that is best for a particular individual is explained.
