Teen Living 6, 8204. Home Economics Education.
Loudoun County Public Schools, Leesburg, VA.
The Loudoun County, Virginia, middle school home economics curriculum has been designed to meet the unique needs of the early adolescent. It is based upon three major concepts: (1) basic skills; (2) self-knowledge/understanding/decision making; and (3) independence/interdependence. This guide on teen living for sixth graders includes a curriculum outline for the following five instructional units: (1) introduction; (2) kitchen basics; (3) personal development; (4) clothing and textiles; and (5) consumer education. Following the outline, a checklist for measuring competencies is given for each area. Each area includes performance objectives, criterion-referenced measures, and performance guides. A correlation with a West Virginia curriculum guide is next, which lists how each unit's learning activities relate to the three major concepts. A section on career infusion information follows, listing eight career education objectives, the relevant subject and middle school grade, and which curriculum guide and unit contains the objectives. Eleven resources are listed in this guide. (NLA)
