School Psychology Consultation: A Successful Model for the Non-Public School.
Langenthal, Stuart F.
This report describes a model which was implemented in Broward County, Florida for the provision of psychological services in non-public schools. The major goals of the model are identified: (1) to increase teachers' awareness of types of academic/behavioral difficulties in need of assessment; (2) to increase parents' awareness of available services; (3) to provide evaluations of 14 youngsters; and (4) to provide follow-up consultation. The problems faced by private schools, especially the need for student assessments, are discussed, and a literature review traces the trends in school psychology over the years. Program evaluation is described and two types of evaluation data, enumerative and process, are explained. A consultation model of school psychology is outlined and a step-by-step assessment paradigm is reviewed. The results, conclusions, and recommendations of the program are discussed. The appendices contain needs assessment forms and data tables, an evaluation of objectives chart, a summary of enumerative data, and a dissemination package for school psychology consultation. (BL)
