This 1984-85 fact book for Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) presents data on institutional characteristics, faculty and staff, full-time equivalent enrollments, student characteristics, and facilities for the MATC district and each of the college campuses. Highlights derived from an analysis of data and trends include the following: (1) first semester day headcount enrollment decreased from a reported 16,031 in 1983-84 to 15,007 in 1984-85; (2) first semester evening headcount enrollment decreased from 24,888 in 1983-84 to 23,545 in 1984-85; (3) associate degree fall headcount enrollment decreased from an all-time high of 14,621 in 1983-84 to 14,064 in 1984-85; (4) college-parallel fall day and evening total headcount enrollments increased to 2,387 in 1984-85 from 2,370 in 1983-84; (5) changes in enrollment over the past 5 years were attributed primarily to large increases in associate degree students; (6) a change in the course numbering and state codes of apprentice-level courses resulted in large decreases in the apprentice category in 1983-84; (7) in fall 1984, 52.72% of the day students and 62.88% of the evening students were female; (8) MATC's 1984 day headcount enrollment was 23.26% Black, 2.50% Hispanic, 2.86% Asian, and 1.23% Native American, representing increases in all ethnic minority categories; (9) the average class size was 18.61 students in 1984-85; and (10) the median age of faculty was 47 years.
