Over-21: An Education Program for Severely Disabled Adults. Final Report.
Sailor, Wayne; Goetz, Lori
The final report documents accomplishments of a project designed to establish a full time continuing education program for severely multiply handicapped young adults. The Over-21 project was further designed to establish a widely replicable, innovative, model educational program as an alternative to the traditional "day care" focus of most programs for this population. The first of three sections, section I, provides a brief narrative history of the project's first year, including reasons for its location on a college campus and for placing emphasis on natural cues and contexts for instruction, and information on cost and long term program support. Section II reports on progress for each of seven objectives, which touch on areas of program development, skill acquisition, parent and caregiver training, community awareness, inservice for staff and volunteers, and program replication. The final section, section III, presents both summative and formative evaluation data, including data on student acquisition of individualized education program objectives. Appended are a daily class schedule, a table of IEP content areas for 10 students, a sample instructional program, and a graph of performance. (CL)
