This manual describes a process by which the pooling of resources, appropriate analyses, and utilization of vocational programs and personnel can be combined to provide a reasoned approach to the assessment of the training and employment potential of handicapped individuals. Section I begins with a review of the program that developed assessment competencies and provided vocational assessment within a vocational school setting to individuals with a variety of handicapping conditions. Other contents include job descriptions of essential staff for a vocational assessment program within a vocational school, referral/assessment procedures, and program recommendations. Section II describes these components of a comprehensive assessment program: medical, dexterity, psychological, and educational information and information on vocational aptitude and employability skills. Commercially prepared assessment tools that are available are listed. Section III discusses shop explorations and presents an example of a completed shop exploration. Section IV, on educational prescription, illustrates the process of moving from assessment data to recommendations. Materials of a sample vocational assessment include an assessment report score card, shop exploration form, task analysis sheets, and formal recommendations.
