"Handles" for Teaching Grammar.
Wong, Sau-ling Cynthia
Methods for introducing and drilling grammatical structures in English as a second language (ESL) are presented for beginning teachers. Emphasis is on realistic contextualization and elicitation of spoken and written language through visual cueing in mechanical or meaningful exercises. The exercises are intended for small groups of college-bound ESL students but can be adapted to other types of students. Question formation is introduced through interview exercises, count and noncount nouns through picture description, comparatives through mathematical symbols, and the "so...that" construction through tall tales.
