Monograph Acquisitions Unit Staff Manual.
Johnson, Steve; And Others
This staff manual provides a thorough description of the functions, procedures, and files of the monograph acquisitions department at South Carolina's Clemson University Library. It is noted that the department is responsible for both firm order and standing order purchases. Following introductory material, the principal processes of searching, ordering, and receiving are covered. Each process is described briefly in terms of its function, relationship to other processes, and primary subprocesses. It is then analyzed in sequential steps. Other procedures which are described include: claiming, the review of old orders, cancellation of orders, rush processing, gift processing, processing of theses and dissertations written at Clemson University, the acquisition of out-of-print books, the compilation of monthly reports and statistics, the processing of "Choice" cards, and the acquisition of monographic series. Appendices present: (1) flow charts for the searching, ordering, and receiving processes; (2) an organizational chart; (3) a glossary; (4) lists of abbreviations used on multiple order forms, frequently used requesters' names, and special location abbreviations; (5) examples of purchase request forms, multiple order forms, and bookkeeping forms; (6) a description of the files and filing rules used in the department; and (7) information on general and special acquisition funds.
