Report on the Statewide Instructional Computing Network's 1st Annual Survey of Instructional Computing Practices/Plans of New York State School Districts.
New York State Education Dept., Albany.
This document reports the results of a survey on the use of microcomputers for classroom instruction in New York state school districts, which was conducted as a project of the steering committee of the New York Statewide Instructional Computing Network (SICN), an organization of New York educators designed to provide a means for sharing information and materials and to serve as a forum for articulating related statewide policy issues. The description of survey results follows the survey format, focusing on (1) the number of students and teachers using microcomputers; (2) the availability and acquisition of microcomputers and peripheral equipment; (3) the development of microcomputer software/courseware materials; and (4) school district efforts to evaluate the effectiveness of computers in the classroom and/or publish newsletters in this field. Specific topics addressed include microcomputer repair, instructional and management applications, and evaluation. Appendices include a copy of the survey questionnaire and a roster of SICN delegates. Twenty-one data tables display results. (Author/LMM)
