Presented in this report are brief descriptions of preservice teacher education programs offered by American institutions of higher education and inservice teacher education programs and structures in U.S. urban school districts, designed for the education, preparation, and continuing training of professionals for urban schools. The programs were chosen for inclusion in the report because of their basic and/or unique features related to urban education; they were either typical or atypical urban programs. Information provided on each program include the institution or school district offering the program; its geographical location; type of service provided; program overview; and a description of the program curriculum, broadly defined to include not only specific courses but also various activities and experiences.
