The study developed a 12 item Likert type scaled answer sheet, associated questions regarding social situations where the handicapped and nonhandicapped might interact, and a posterboard picture for determining the attitudes of primary grade students toward other handicapped children. Interviews, observations, a review of the literature, consultation with and examination by experts in the field, an initial item pool, a prepilot and pilot study, item analysis, and item correlation with total score were used to determine instrument validity and reliability. Coefficient alpha for the instrument was over .75. Validity was established through observation, pilot testing, and examination by experts in the field.
