This volume consists of 30 lessons of text material, broken down into five units, to be used with 30 cassette tapes of 15 to 20 minutes in length each. The instructional materials for each unit are organized as follows: A Note on Israeli Hebrew, The Hebrew Sound System, Phonology Drills, Vocabulary Practice, Narratives, Dialogues, Grammar Notes, Drills, Dictation Exercises, and Tests. The materials have been prepared for self-study by language students who have completed one year of college-level Hebrew or several months of intensive Hebrew. The language used is characteristic of everyday conversation rather than literature or the press. The presentation, which depends primarily on a profusion of short texts, dialogues, sentences, and drills designed for intensive student participation, repetition, and memorization, places little emphasis on explanation or explicit statement of grammatical rules. All texts, dialogues, and drills are accompanied by a full English translation. (Author/JB)
