Graduate Training for Developing Community. Report of a National Conference on Training Held in Kalamazoo, Michigan, April, 1979.
Weaver, Donald C., Ed.
Recent societal changes that indicate a need for different competencies on the part of those who provide leadership at the community level also indicate a need for improved competencies on the part of those who train community leaders. A national conference was held to provide an opportunity to share training strategies among institutions training community leaders at the graduate level. The conference report includes the planning processes for the conference, pre-conference materials, identified skills and strategies, evaluation results, and suggested follow-up procedures. The 120 conference participants were assigned to nine work groups with three specific tasks: identify the activities in which community leaders engage, specify the skills required to implement the activities, and suggest promising strategies by which the skills might be developed in graduate training programs. Tentative summaries are included to provide information concerning the activities, skills, and strategies discussed. (Author/JK)
