Faster Growth toward More Fruitful Cross-Fertilization for the Cultivation of Professional Competence.
De Mott, John
College and university involvement in programs of continuing education or inservice training for practicing journalists is reviewed in this paper. Continued and increased involvement is forecast for the 1980s. Surveys addressing the need for continued education and surveys conducted to discover in-house newspaper training programs are reviewed. Also identified are schools that have been involved in conducting inservice training institutes or similar programs for journalists and professional development programs conducted by various newspaper organizations. A list of programs providing fellowships, scholarships, or grants is given. It is suggested that continued education for journalists in both professional fields and subject areas will benefit society generally and higher education specifically. (MKM)
