Career Education for Non-Traditional Students. Final Report, July 1, 1976-June 30, 1977.
Northern Virginia Community Coll., Annandale. Inst. for Extended Learning.
Career Education for Non-Traditional Students (CENTS) was designed to address the career education needs of the adult population through the services of the community college. During the first year of funding (1975-76), the project carried out an extensive needs assessment and, based on this information, designed and developed a series of print-based career education skills modules specifically for the adult community-based population. The self-instructional units included Self (skills training in self-appraisal), Work (learning about the world of work), Decisions (decision making), Preparation (obtaining education and training), and Change (job-seeking and -keeping skills). Evaluation focused on the four modes or classifications of ways the CENTS materials were used: (1) courses offered for credit, (2) groups of life/career planning workshops held in community settings, (3) individuals or users who worked independently through the materials, and (4) institutional interventions focusing on facilitators or counselors who might use the materials in their own settings. (Appendixes, amounting to well over one-half of the report, include evaluation instruments and the Facilitator's Guide to the Career Emphasis Materials, which contains the following material on the series of five books: explanatory materials, goals and objectives, questionnaires and content exam, outline for courses, and description of activities.)
