Curriculum Guide for Visual Arts. K-12, Bulletin 1978, No. 16.
Alabama State Dept. of Education, Montgomery.
This guide is designed to help teachers develop sequential and creative art education programs in elementary and secondary classrooms. Specific goals focus on enabling students to perceive, describe, and respond to the aesthetic qualities of the natural and man-made environment; to analyze, judge and value works of art; to acquire a knowledge of visual art heritage and cultural influences; and to produce works of art. The guide is arranged in three sections: grades K-4, 5-8, and 9-12. Each section provides an introductory statement and a chart listing specific objectives and goals, suggested learning activities and teaching methods, and ways to evaluate students' knowledge gain. Activities include viewing films and slides, using themes or celebrations, drawing, making prints, identifying color, tasting and smelling, appreciating famous works of art, analyzing composition, making collages, listening to stories and artists, using tools, illustrating, and doing individual art projects. A list of suggestions for projects in various areas of art and a bibliography of books and magazines conclude the guide. (CK)
