Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Great-Granddaughter. Teacher's Guide.
Kraft, D. Chetley; And Others
This teacher's manual is designed to accompany the sixth grade level of the kindergarten through grade six sequenced literature curriculum developed through the Instructional Television Services Section of the Nebraska Department of Education. The purpose of the series at this level is to introduce the student to the wide variety in types of literature. The guide follows the telelessons (whose major character is a fictional descendant of Sherlock Holmes) and is divided into five units of 33 lessons. Each lesson plan includes a summary of the telelesson, suggested discussion questions and activities, and a bibliography for class reading assignments. Unit One deals with the differences between oral and written literature and discusses creation, heroes, magical tales, proverbs and parables, beast and literary fables, and tall tales. Unit Two contains lessons on oral and written poetry. Unit Three, deals with drama and focuses on pantomime and dance, theatre, and movies and television. Areas covered in Unit Four, which deals with written fiction, include modern fantasy, suspension of time, personified animals, science fiction, historical fiction, sociological fiction, psychological fiction, mystery, and action adventure fiction. The last unit, concerning written nonfiction, includes documentary adventure, romantic biography, historical biography, autobiography, reference, and how-to books. (MKM)
