Student Loan Collection Procedures.

This manual on the collection of student loans is intended for the use of business officers and loan collection personnel of colleges and universities of all sizes. The introductory chapter is an overview of sound collection practices and procedures. It discusses the making of a loan, in-school servicing of the accounts, the exit interview, the billing process, interruption of the billing process, the collection process, litigation, uncollectible loans, and tracing students. Appended to this chapter are a sample statement of rights and responsibilities, a confidential information form, truth in lending form, list of codes, repayment chart, sample letter to be used at 90-120 days, request for hardship deferment and response letter, collection flow chart, loan collector's guide to special situations, letter of disbursement and receipts, legal forms, account tracing check sheet, and delinquency report. The four following chapters each discuss a major federal loan program: the National Defense/Direct Student Loans, Guaranteed Student Loans, Health Professions Student Loans, and Nursing Student Loans. Appended to each chapter are a similar array of forms and samples, appropriate to the specific program. (MSE)
