This report gives information on language enrollments in New York State for the years 1968 through 1979. The statistical tables provide the following information: (1) the percentage of the New York State public school population enrolled in foreign language study in grades 7, 8, and 9-12; (2) enrollment data for FLES, grade 7, grade 8, levels I-VI, advanced placement, non-regents, and innovative or experimental programs in French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Latin, Russian, Spanish, and rare foreign languages; (3) total enrollments in the commonly taught languages by grade or level; (4) total enrollments in the commonly taught languages and Latin by grade and level; (5) percentage of the school population enrolled in foreign language study at selected grade levels; (6) attrition rates in foreign language enrollments after Level II; and (7) attrition rates in foreign language enrollments after Level III.
