The document presents the final report of the High/Scope Demonstration Preschool Project, one of the First Chance national demonstration projects funded under the Handicapped Children's Early Education Program. Chapter 1 outlines accomplishments of the project in terms of seven program goals (including the development of procedures for assessing children's developmental status and evaluating their progress in the course of preschool program participation). In Chapter 2, the High/Scope Cognitively Oriented Curriculum is described as an example of a developmental approach in early childhood special education. The historical background and basic goals and strategies of the model are considered, and some important child outcome data are cited. Chapter 3 summarizes the services provided to program children. Chapter 4 reviews the outcomes of home visits, parent conferences, and parent meetings. A fifth chapter describes demonstration and dissemination activities, while a sixth traces training of personnel from other programs and agencies (included in this chapter is a sample preschool teacher training profile form). Chapter 7 provides summaries of the training materials to be used in replication, the High/Scope Foundation First Chance Outreach Project, and the High/Scope Foundation Early Childhood Personnel Training Project.
