Training a Cadre of Rural Educators to Conduct Career Education In-Service. Final Report [and] Executive Summary.

A Cashmere School District, Washington, project trained a cadre of rural educators and provided them with necessary skills and materials to conduct career education inservice training. Over fifty participants attended ten-day workshops at which the nine training modules developed by the project were used. Designed for independent presentation, each module should be an integral part of the total career education inservice training program, as it contains directions and references necessary for conducting inservice on such topics as curriculum development; community involvement; reducing sex, ethnic, and race bias; evaluation; and program implementation. The data for project evaluation was collected by a third-party evaluator through interviews with the project director and participants, observation of project activities, a pre-test and post-test administration of questionnaires used in the training workshops, inspection and critique of the modules, and inspection of project records and documents. Data collected indicated that the workshop participants did increase skills in (1) knowledge of career education concerns and concepts, (2) career education activities, and (3) training others to conduct career education activities. Project staff were judged to have been successful in conducting the workshops and developing the training modules.
