Presented is a set of learning modules intended for teaching science to students in grades eleven and twelve. Each module incorporates problem solving using the scientific viewpoint and emphasizing the interface between science and society. The fifteen modules presented include the following topics: group dynamics; the value of science; a puzzle entitled "The Lebon Prize"; a role playing experience called "Dr. Stuffy"; nuclear power; the Herzberg lecture on boundaries of knowledge; lifeboat ethics; early science and the nature of matter; Plato, Aristotle and Ptolemy; Copernicus; Galileo; Newton; relativity; twenty ways the world could end; and a theory today. Each module is intended to last approximately one hour. An evaluation of the project is given at the back of the text. The appendices contain a preference survey and a student opinionnaire. (SA)
