Recent literature on the changing staffing requirements for registered nurses and the factors affecting those requirements is cited in this annotated bibliography that comprises the ninth volume in the Nurse Planning Information Series. A broad concept of staffing is employed and includes information useful to both managers within individual institutions and to health planners concerned with community, county, or state institutions. Abstracts of the literature are grouped according to the following categories: hospital inpatient and hospital outpatient settings; long-term care settings; models and strategies, and economic studies of staffing methodologies; regional, state, and national studies of needs and requirements; and bibliographies and summaries.
