The development and evaluation of a nontraditional program with a major in Long Term Care Administration is presented. Part 1 presents an evaluation of the impact of the program on students, faculty, the curricula for long term care administration, and in the field of practice. Student characteristics are established and the performance of the nontraditional group is compared with traditional students. Faculty reaction to participation in a nontraditional program and assessment of students' abilities are reported. The curriculum design and study material development are explained, and evaluation of long term benefits of the program to the field is discussed. The second part focuses on an evaluation of the program and curriculum goals. Findings from surveys are synthesized to determine the appropriateness of each goal, their priority rating, and an indication of their achievement or potential women and minorities and (2) the potential of the program in accommodating lifelong learning and/or continuing education. Data are presented on the experience of the program with women and minorities' applications and enrollment, problems in the program, retention rates, and reasons for withdrawal. An assessment of potential for fulfilling lifelong learning and/or continuing education needs is made. Findings are reported and summarized in the final chapter.
