The staff of the Program on Teaching and Linguistic Pluralism at the Center for Educational Research at Stanford University has been involved in a number of research efforts related to the teaching of reading and other language arts skills to Black Vernacular English speaking pupils. These efforts have culminated in the development of a number of products, including the Tests of Black English for Teachers of Bidialectal Students (TBETB). This paper provides information on the development, rationale and uses, description, administration, reliability, and validity of the TBETB. Also included are copies of Forms A and B of each test (Test I--History and Structure, and Test II--Language Arts Pedagogy) with accompanying answer keys. (RL)
