The Secondary Consumer Mathematics Curriculum in B.C.--Present and Proposed.
Wong, Shirley Mabel
Consumer mathematics topics taught in the subject areas of mathematics, business education, and home economics were compiled. The compilation was analyzed and revised by a panel of secondary teachers and university professors from the three subject areas. The proposed curriculum contains 32 topics arranged in rank order of importance by the panel. The prescribed texts used in two consumer courses covered 44% of the topics in the proposed curriculum. The author and panel concluded that secondary students are not acquiring basic skills and knowledge in consumer mathematics in spite of the fact that three subject areas are teaching consumer topics.
