Kentucky Handbook for Community Education.
Kentucky State Dept. of Education, Frankfort. Div. of Program Development.
This handbook provides incentives for individuals to improve the quality of life in Kentucky communities by becoming involved in community education. An effective community education program provides educational, recreational, social, and cultural services which work toward improving community life. The school often plays a key role in the delivery of community services provided by institutions, organizations, agencies, and individuals at the local, state, and national levels. The document is presented in five chapters. Various chapters are included on defining the concept, discussing the legal basis and regulations, identifying needs and resources, financing community education programs, organizing a community council, and training and technical assistance. A competency profile for community education leadership is also included. Copies of a resolution, budget, and contracts as well as interest surveys, evaluation forms, a diagram of an information and referral system and a list of possible funding sources and services are provided.
