Church-State Relationship--Recent Developments.
Bryson, Joseph E.
This paper presents church-state issues, both legislative and judicial, decided or pending during the period November 1976 through October 1977. Some of the wide-ranging issues, which are discussed alphabetically by state, include public aid for elementary, secondary, and higher education; religious practices in schools; the teaching of transcendental meditation; the distribution of Bibles on public school campuses; and school boards' observance of religious holidays of employees. The case of Wolman v. Walter, which challenged the constitutionality of financial aid to sectarian schools, is discussed in detail. A table provides a breakdown of each justice's votes on the case.
