This guide provides practicing school counselors with self-instructional materials by referring them to Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) documents which are available on microfiche. The guide includes usage strategies and a needs assessment for helping users select appropriate materials. The content topics are accountability, behavior modification, change agentry, child abuse, consultation, decision-making, and guidance for career and job placement. It also includes the general subjects of legal concerns, parent education, program planning and development, proposal writing, public relations, substance abuse, and values, and the following counseling sub-topics: death and dying, groups, minorities, peers, and women. In addition, instructions for manually searching the ERIC data base are provided. The guide's felxibility suggests many possible uses, including as a reference source or as the curriculum for group training. (LJS)
