Utah Statewide Educational Assessment 1978: General Report.
Ellison, Robert L.; And Others
As part of Utah's 1978 statewide assessment, a number of tests were administered to over 4,000 fifth grade students from 64 elementary schools and over 2,000 eleventh graders from thirty high schools. This report presents the results in each of the areas tested: (1) intellectual maturity--measured by reading and mathematics achievement on the nationally-normed Comprehensive Tests of Basic Skills; (2) emotional maturity; (3) social maturity; (4) aesthetic maturity; (5) productive maturity; (6) enjoyment of school; (7) educational process--including individualization of instruction, reinforcement of self concept, classroom participation, career development, and expectations (fifth grade only); and (8) school demographic characteristics--including socioeconomic status, size, location, Title I classification, race, and physical architecture (open versus closed). Key findings are summarized for each of the areas, and recommendations are presented for local, district, and state-level staff. Results in some of the areas tested are briefly compared to the results of the first assessment, which was conducted in 1975. (GDC)
