The directory, 80% of which consists of appendixes, is a compilation of information concerning secondary programs for the emotionally disturbed, based on replies to a National Association of State Directors of Special Education national survey. The principal section reports summary data relating to terminology and definition, prevalence, services available, personnel involved in service delivery, diagnosis and placement, program administration models, and provision of state consultants for programs for the emotionally disturbed. Some of the data is expanded and elaborated in appendixes, which list such things as state definitions of emotional disturbance, recommended test batteries for determining eligibility and placement, and prevalence figures. The appendixes also report types of services available in the states, caseloads of professionals serving emotionally disturbed students, state reports of quality programs for emotionally disturbed adolescents, and use of consultants by state education agencies.
