An Annotated Listing of Training Institutions Offering Communications Courses to Developing-Country Personnel.
Moulton, Jeanne; Spain, Peter
This annotated list of institutions is the first of two documents produced in a study of training needs and opportunities in communication for development for personnel from less-developed countries. Three categories of institutions that either presently offer or have the potential to offer communication for development training are listed: U.S. universities, U.S. non-academic organizations, and Canadian and Western European organizations. Training in broadcasting and in social science approaches to communication and development are emphasized. Each institution is described briefly in terms of programs relevant to this survey, faculty and student activities, and interest expressed in further cooperation with USAID, the study's sponsor. A number of minority schools with communication programs have been included, most with a long tradition of service to predominantly black students. However, they have yet to expand into international communication or its application to development. (Author/RAO)
