Report on the Intermediate Evaluation Project--Phase II.
A series of tests was administered to Ontario, Canada students who had completed the eighth grade: mathematics, reading, language, written English, social studies, science, health, physical fitness, French as a second language, French as a first language, written French, values, moral reasoning, problem solving, and attitudes. Approximately 50 school boards and 15,000 students participated in this project, which had three goals: to (1) provide information to students, parents, and teachers concerning individual achievement; (2) provide information about achievement overall, within a system, and within a school; and (3) provide formative evaluation about current curricula. Objectives used to construct the tests were categorized into those items which the student "must know","should know", and those which it would be "nice to know". Individual students' test results were then classified according to three bench marks: level of competence, honors, and high honors. Statistical data are presented for each test, including correlation data between subtests. Item analysis data presented for each test include the educational objective tested, a sample test question, classification (must know, should know, or nice to know), name of subtest containing the item, and a brief description of overall results.
