Methods of Evaluation and Career Education. A Users Manual for Local Education Agencies.
Lewis, L. L.; And Others
Divided into five chapters, this user's manual is intended to assist local educators in the assessment of their career education programs. The first chapter discusses the purposes of evaluation. Chapter 2 provides a quick overview of the basic evaluation steps, while the remaining chapters provide the necessary details to implement these eleven steps. Chapter 3 focuses on the first three steps: (1) decide to conduct an evaluation; (2) select the evaluation coordinator and the evaluation committee; and (3) prepare an overview of current career education activities. In chapter 4, steps 4-8 are elaborated: (4) formulate evaluation questions; (5) identify sources of data; (6) select or identify instruments; (7) prepare a sampling plan; and (8) prepare and conduct data collection. In the last chapter, steps 9-11 are presented: (9) data tabulation and analysis; (10) review findings and make recommendations; and (11) disseminate report and implement recommendations. The majority of this document contains appended materials, including sample survey instruments, an annotated bibliography of published instruments, and a random number table. (A related document, CE 018 806, contains a detailed description of the instruments used to assess South Carolina's career education status. Another document, CE 018 807, interprets the career education needs assessment survey that was taken of a sample of South Carolina school students and school staff.) (BM)
