Nembe Language Made Easy, Mie Lokomote Nembebibi. Occasional Publication No. 6.
Efebo, L. Awotua
This textbook on the Nembe language of Nigeria is written for students whose mother tongue is not Nember and for beginners in elementary school. In the introduction, notes on the new Nembe orthography are given, including vowels, nasalized vowels, consonants, tones, and word division. Notes on the grammar are next, with discussion of pronouns, verbs, negatives, questions, commands, adjective verbs, pairs of verbs, and nouns. Following are the English and Nembe alphabets. The main body of the book is an English-Nembe word list and a Nembe-English one. The word list with English as the source language includes headings of common salutations, important names, parts of the body, parts of a tree, names of birds, fish, food, fruits, animals, reptiles, days of the week, months and seasons, names of deformities, family names, occupations, parts of a building, furniture, utensils, and numbers. Translations from Nembe to English are all in the form of simple sentences. A number of stories in Nembe are next, concluding with the Nigerian national anthem in Nembe and English. (NCR)
