The difficulties in the assessment of severely handicapped children are described. Competencies for examiners and desirable test characteristics are listed. A table presents descriptive information on tests most frequently used in measuring the behavioral repertoires of severely handicapped children. The Developmental Activities Screening Instrument, a recently published nonverbal test designed specifically for severely handicapped children, is noted. (Author)
