Physical anthropolgy, linguistics, and archaeology are treated only insofar as they are covered in works of broad scope. Section I lists dictionaries and encyclopedias of anthropology and related fields. Section II identifies handbooks on anthropological theory and method as well as on regional and ethnic cultures. Sections III and IV present atlases, directories of anthropologists, and directories of research institutions, courses, museums, and libraries. Reviews of the literature are listed in section V, followed by current bibliographies and periodical indexes in section VI. Retrospective bibliographies categorized by region and by special subjects are named in section VII. The concluding two sections present theses and selected periodicals. Each entry gives information on title, period of publication, McLennan Library catalog and shelf numbers, issues contained in the library, and a brief description of each book's content and format.
