The 1978 Summer Session. Community Colleges.
Hawaii Univ., Honolulu. Community Coll. System.
Data collected from student applications, class registrations, deans of instruction, program coordinators and registrars provide the basis for this report on students enrolled in the summer credit programs of six community colleges in Hawaii. Headcount enrollment totaled 8,160; 37% were enrolled in "regular credit programs" and 54% in "other" programs such as Hawaii State Senior Centers and job-experience programs. The regular student enrollment showed a 4% increase over the previous summer (2,996 vs. 2,891). Males (58%) continued to outnumber females despite a 1% increase in women students. Overall, liberal arts majors (44%) comprised the plurality group, vocational students constituted 29% and unclassified students 27%; individual campuses showed marked differences in the most widely chosen program. Continuing students comprised 72% of the enrollment, followed by transfer (14%) and first time (9%) students. Compared to the regular semester student (24.6 years of age) the summer student was older (28.5 years old) and more frequently in the 35-59 age group. (AYC)
