A Human Resource Inventory and Information System for Selected Illinois Community Colleges and Upper-Division Universities: A Feasibility Study.
Wesley, Robert M.; And Others
This report presents the results of a pilot study designed to test the feasibility and desirability of establishing a statewide human resources inventory and information system to support the community service role of Illinois community colleges and upper division universities. The information system would provide a centralized source of data on all faculty members with respect to educational background, experiences, work history, and community interests. A questionnaire was sent to faculty members and administrators at nine Illinois community colleges and two upper-division universities in order to determine their attitudes toward community services and the establishment of such an information system and to obtain data for input into the system. An overwhelming majority of the 344 respondents believed that their institutions had a "necessary place" in community services involvement. Over 81% supported the establishment of a centralized information system and 66.3% were willing to take on requests for their skills which may result from the creation of the system. Respondents' community interests, research fields, degrees, certifications, skills, and hobbies are categorized and then coded for subject input and retrieval. Survey responses are given by position, age, sex, number of teaching years, and institution. The questionnaire and code book are appended. (DC)
