Comparative Guide to Science and Engineering Programs.
Cass, James; Birnbaum, Max
Comparative information about individual departments and programs in colleges and universities is presented for the biological sciences, chemistry, earth sciences, engineering, general science, mathematical sciences, physics, and astronomy. Institutions are listed alphabetically within the seven major fields. Department information includes enrollment by sex; admission standards; degrees offered; the number of undergraduate degrees conferred (1967-1968 data); the majors offered; amount of student time spent in lectures, seminars and the laboratory; requirements for graduation; the number of graduates in recent years (1960-1966) who have gone on to earn Ph.D. degrees and national awards, and the percent of students entering graduate programs, industrial, government and educational professions immediately after graduation. The availability of opportunities for research and for use of computer facilities by undergraduates is indicated. The seven indexes categorize departments and institutions by subject areas, majors offered and by rank order of departments or institutions according to the majors going on to graduate study or medical/dental school. Approximately 2,500 departments and programs are covered in this report. (PR)
