Education and classroom materials for young children are listed which aim at imposing as little as possible between the child and the act of involvement and which are open ended and have the capacity for extension to many applications. Materials are illustrated: rationales and suggestions for their use are provided; supplier's names and prices are included. In addition, age ranges are specified for each of the materials at the beginning of each subject area under which the item is listed. The subject areas include water and sand, plants and animals, games, looking, arts and crafts, structure, attribute materials, music and puzzles. It is emphasized, however, that most of the items included apply across the subject areas, and that limitations on their use should not be defined by the categories into which they are grouped. Interspersed among the descriptions are essays, cartoons, and Zen paintings which express the educational philosophy of the catalog. An index and a list of supplier's addresses are also included. (SH)
