Developing Human Resources.
Nadler, Leonard
This book attempts to capture the essence of a rapidly emerging field, that of Human Resource Development (HRD). HRD includes improving performance on the present job (training), preparing individuals for future but identifiable jobs within the organization (education), and helping individuals grow to meet future organizational growth (development). The 10 chapters in the book present the following: 1. a discussion of the definition of HRD, the settings in which it occurs, and some of the forces that are influencing the movement; 2. a brief history of HRD; 3, 4, and 5 the development of resources in organizations where the human resource is essentially an employee; 6. human resource development of nonemployees; 7. a model of the human resource developer; 8. the HRD person as he functions as a learning specialist; 9. the role of the HRD specialist as an administrator; and 10. the role of the HRD consultant. Literature citations are given at the conclusion of each chapter, and a listing of additional reading material, briefly annotated is provided. An index concludes the book. (DB)
