Introducing the pupil to the science of ecology is the purpose of Scholastic's Earth Corps Ecology/Conservation Study Kits for grades 3-6. Simple terms are used to show how all living things are inter-related to their environment, to demonstrate the intricate and delicate balance of nature, and to point out how man's interference with nature's checks and balances has led to our present crisis. Included in the instructional materials are: (1) student activity books with reading matter, illustrations, written and creative projects; (2) a teacher's guide with suggestions for page by page use of the student booklet, background information, teaching procedures, discussion questions, and related projects; (3) nine transparencies illustrating how climatic and geographic conditions shape life and are, in turn, shaped by life. Six are color representations of the major biomes of North America; and (4) a full-color, two-sided wall chart depicting earth cycles, those in nature and those in the city.
