Smelser, Neil J., Ed.; Davis, James A., Ed.
The book is one of a series prepared by a committee in the larger project the Behavioral and Social Sciences Survey (BASS) conducted between 1967 and 1969. This report on sociology attempts to provide decision makers in legislatures, government agencies, the general public, and professionals, with an overview of the field of sociology, the problems, and the trends. The overview is composed of: 1) the nature of sociological research; 2) some of the fields where theoretical explorations are made; 3) the strengths and weaknesses of the sub-fields of sociology; 4) the historical development of the discipline; 5) the disciplines institutional resources in terms of manpower and funding. A concluding chapter makes some recommendations. (CWB)
