This manual has been prepared to provide one approach for an examination of the role activities of the counseling staff in the modern secondary school. It has not been prepared to furnish "the answer." Within recognized limits, it has been prepared to focus attention on and to present: (1) a point of view of the secondary school and learning in synergetic systems, (2) a position relating teaching and counseling as guidance processes for helping individuals learn developmental tasks, (3) a model of functions and role activities of the counseling staff in secondary schools, and (4) a self study instrument based upon the model for use by principals, teachers, and counselors in evaluating counseling functions in secondary schools.
