The Maine Department of Education assumed the responsibility for the education of Indian children living on Indian reservations on July 1, 1966. This report provides information on the present status of the program. Information is provided on number of schools, school enrollment for the 1969-1970 school year, characteristics of the teaching staff, educational improvements over the past 3 years, special programs in operation, legislation effecting the financial program, and higher education opportunities for Indian students.
