The Pre-School Assessment Program.
Rockdale County Public Schools, Conyers, GA.
The purpose of the pre-school assessment program described is to improve the first grade curriculum and make it more meaningful to all students through early identification of strengths and weaknesses, coupled with appropriate follow up activities. Children (340) entering the Rockdale County, Georgia, first grade in the fall of 1968 completed a program consisting of the Metropolitan Readiness Tests, the first grade Screening Test, a health screening, and a child inventory. Parents filled out a lengthy questionnaire and participated in a series of discussion groups and family conferences. At the writing of this paper, no information was available concerning followup communication with parents or the success of the program in meeting its goals, as the school year had just begun. Copies of forms used in testing, and suggestions from teachers to parents are included. The research reported herein was funded under a Title III, Elementary and Secondary Act of 1965 with the U.S. Office of Education, Department of Health, Education and Welfare. (BP)
