IN THE 18 MONTHS SINCE THE INDUSTRIAL TRAINING ACT BECAME LAW, NINE INDUSTRIAL TRAINING BOARDS HAVE BEEN SET UP BY THE MINISTRY OF LABOUR TO COVER PARTICULAR INDUSTRIES. THE BOARDS WILL COMPILE A REGISTER OF FIRMS WITHIN EACH INDUSTRY, PREPARE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR TYPE AND LENGTH OF TRAINING, AND IMPLEMENT A GRANT AND LEVY SYSTEM TO COVER TRAINING COSTS. TECHNICAL COLLEGES HAVE BEEN PROVIDING SHORT, FULL TIME COURSES FOR THE TRAINING OF INDUSTRIAL TRAINING OFFICERS, USING A SYLLABUS PREPARED BY THE INDUSTRIAL TRAINING SERVICE. THESE WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY SPECIALIZED COURSES AND ON-THE-JOB-TRAINING. IN SPITE OF TUITION GRANTS TO THOSE ATTENDING THE SHORT COURSES, THERE HAVE BEEN FEW TRAINEES AND SOME COURSES HAVE BEEN ABANDONED. THE SANDWICH COURSE, A COMBINATION OF INDUSTRIAL AND ACADEMIC TRAINING, IS A VALUABLE MEANS OF PRODUCING TECHNICIANS AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WILL ENCOURAGE FIRMS TO MAKE GREATER USE OF IT. THE CENTRAL TRAINING COUNCIL IS STUDYING WAYS TO MAKE SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT TRAINING AVAILABLE TO BOARDS. (APPENDIXES ARE LISTS OF COUNCIL MEMBERS AND INDUSTRIAL TRAINING BOARDS.)
